Comfortable Chicks Give Great Results
Keeping chicks well looked after and comfortable starts from hatch. What happens between hatch and the end of the first week will shape performance, health, and uniformity for the entire flock. Ensuring optimal conditions during holding, transport, and placement is key. Strong communication across the hatchery, transport provider, and farm team helps ensure the chicks have the best chance of success.

Open-sided broiler houses rely on natural airflow instead of environmental control, which makes management more challenging—but not impossible. Success in these systems depends on how well the houses are managed. 
The Biggest Challenge: Temperature Control
Temperature control starts with house design. Roofs should be double- or triple-ridge designs to allow hot air to escape rapidly, especially if they are uninsulated. The roof should extend 1.0-1.5 m beyond the house walls to prevent direct sunlight and rain from reaching the chickens, and shade cloth should run from the edge of the roof to the ground. A white or shiny roofing material will help reflect heat away from the building, and under-roof insulation can reduce radiant heat entering the house. Vegetation near a slat house can reduce ground temperature compared to bare earth, and trees can provide shade, but the benefits must be weighed against the risk of creating places for birds and rodents near the house.

পরিদর্শনকালে প্রতিমন্ত্রী চিড়িয়াখানার সার্বিক পরিবেশ, পশুপাখিদের পরিচর্যা ও স্বাস্থ্যব্যবস্থা, খাদ্য সরবরাহ, নিরাপত্তা ব্যবস্থা এবং দূর-দূরান্ত থেকে আগত দর্শনার্থীদের জন্য বিদ্যমান সুযোগ-সুবিধা সম্পর্কে খোঁজখবর নেন।

আজ মঙ্গলবার (১২ মে) সকালে মৎস্য ও প্রাণিসম্পদ মন্ত্রণালয়-এর সম্মেলন কক্ষে সরকার ঘোষিত ১৮০ দিনের কর্মসূচি বাস্তবায়ন বিষয়ে মন্ত্রণালয়ের যুগ্মসচিববৃন্দ ও তদূর্ধ্ব কর্মকর্তা এবং বিভিন্ন প্রকল্প পরিচালকদের সঙ্গে অনুষ্ঠিত এক আলোচনা সভায় মন্ত্রী এসব কথা বলেন।
