Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Sardar has been newly appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of BAU
Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Sardar, Department of Fisheries Biology and Genetics, has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU).
The Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education issued a notification in this regard on Tuesday (September 8).

The notification said that with the approval of the President and the Chancellor of the University, Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Sardar has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor under Section 11(1) of the Bangladesh Agricultural University Ordinance, 1961. He will serve as the Vice-Chancellor for a period of four years from the date of joining or until the date of retirement, whichever is earlier.
As per the terms of appointment, he will enjoy the same salary and allowances as his current position and other benefits as per the rules. In addition, he will have to be present on campus full-time as the Chief Executive Officer of the university.
Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Sardar, a professor at the Department of Fisheries Biology and Genetics of BAU, has been associated with teaching and research for a long time. He recently received the 'National Fisheries Award 2026 (Gold Medal)' in recognition of his contribution to fisheries research and science.
He previously served as the university's student affairs advisor. He was also involved in various administrative and academic activities. Since he took charge as the new vice-chancellor, new expectations have been created around him among the university's teachers, students, officials and employees.
